My Pantry Hero ("the App") is operated by an independent developer. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in accordance with applicable privacy laws including POPIA, GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use the App:
- Email address and password for account creation
- Pantry ingredients and availability status
- Generated meal plans
- Saved recipes and photos you choose to upload
We also collect technical analytics data through Google Firebase Analytics, including device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, app usage patterns, and device and operating system information. See Section 5 for full details.

4. Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase services. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Google Firebase operates servers globally, including in the United States. For EU/UK users, Google Firebase implements Standard Contractual Clauses for international data transfers, providing appropriate safeguards for your personal data.
5. Third Party Services
The App uses the following third party services:
- Google Firebase — authentication, data storage, and analytics
- Anthropic Claude API — AI meal plan generation (Sous Chef and Head Chef tiers)
- Google Gemini API — AI meal plan generation (Home Cook free tier)
Firebase Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with My Pantry Hero. Firebase Analytics automatically collects certain technical information including device identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID), approximate location derived from IP address, app usage patterns, and device and operating system information. This data is processed by Google on our behalf and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). We use this information solely to improve our app and understand where our users are located — we do not use it to identify you personally or for advertising purposes. You may limit data collection by resetting your device's advertising ID in your device settings, or contact us to request deletion of your analytics data.

Under POPIA (South Africa)
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us through the Contact Us page in the App. You may also delete your account directly from the App via My Account → Delete Account.
For Users in the European Union and United Kingdom (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, the GDPR grants you the following additional rights:
- Right to Access — You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time.
- Right to Rectification — You may request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") — You may request that we delete your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions. You may also delete your account directly from the App via My Account → Delete Account.
- Right to Restrict Processing — You may request that we limit how we use your personal data in certain circumstances.
- Right to Data Portability — You may request a copy of your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to Object — You may object to the processing of your personal data where we rely on legitimate interests as our legal basis.
- Right to Withdraw Consent — Where we process your data based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us.
- Right to Opt-Out of Analytics — EU and UK users may opt out of Firebase Analytics data collection by resetting their device's Advertising ID (found in device Settings → Privacy/Ads) or by contacting us directly.
Our lawful basis for processing your personal data under GDPR is primarily contractual necessity (to provide you with the App's services) and legitimate interests (to improve our service and ensure security). We process only the minimum personal data necessary to provide our services.
For Users in California, United States (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:
- Right to Know — You have the right to request disclosure of what personal information we collect, use, and share about you.
- Right to Delete — You have the right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions. You may also delete your account directly from the App via My Account → Delete Account.

- Right to Non-Discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing — We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. Your pantry and recipe data is used solely to provide you with the App's services.
Categories of personal information we collect: identifiers (name, email address), app usage data (meal plans generated, pantry ingredients, saved recipes), and technical analytics data (device identifiers, approximate location, usage patterns).
To exercise your CCPA rights, please contact us through the Contact Us page in the App. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days as required by law.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed from our systems within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain information.
9. Children's Privacy
My Pantry Hero is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
